Mosquitoes tend to thrive in humid environments where rain is common, but they aren ;t exactly the hardiest of creatures. The typical raindrop weighs in at a mass about fifty times that of your average mosquito鈥攕o how do the little buggers manage to survive on a rainy day To find <a href=https://www.cups-stanley.co.uk>stanley cup uk out, engineer David Hu and his colleagues at Georgia Institute of Technology constructed specially designed rain boxes that let them film the flight of numerous mosquitoes under simulated rainy conditions. Contrary to one urban stanley termohrnek myth, which claims that mosquitoes caught in a rainstorm actively evade incoming water bombs, Hu said that the mosquitoes 8220 howed absolutely no sign of trying to avoid water droplets]. Instead, the team high-speed videos revea stanley cup led that the mass of an individual mosquito is actually too small to cause falling raindrops to splash; instead, the raindrops simply deform, and as a result transfer very little momentum to the flying mosquitoes. As a point of reference, Hu calculated that a raindrop loses just 2% of its velocity after hitting a mosquito, which is insufficient to dramatically disrupt the insect flight, as seen in the video above at around 00:54. via New Scientist] BiologyMosquitoesPhysicsScience Zons Crowdfund Bill Nye s science game, the Showrunners documentary, and a massive poster of Wile E. Space is a vast and often empty place, but within our own orbit, things are getting pretty crowded. For some, Sigmund Freud name is synonymous with medical quackery and sexual obsession. But in David Cronenberg new movie about Freud circle of colleagues in the 1910s and 20s, the founder of psychoanalysis emerges as a complicated figure, fighting for scientific recognition in a society where he treated as an interloper for being Jewish 鈥?and a pariah for daring to point out the hypocrisy of European sexual morality. A Dangerous Method focuses on Freud acolyte Carl Jung to offer a fascinating, though occasionally uneven, interpretation of the friendships that helped form the basic tenets of psychology. Like psychoanalysis itself, it ; <a href=https://www.stanley-cups-uk.uk>stanley cup s a story that appears at first to be about sexual perversion, but on further examination reveals conflicts over class, ethnic identity, and the human urge to self-destruction. A Dangerous Method is a movie that feels like it was made by somebody who has been contemplating psychoanalysis for a very long time. So it no surprise that Cronenberg has always demonstrated a fascination for the subject in most of his films, especially in the sexualized gore and gory sexuality of movies like Videodrome, eXistenZ, Crash, Dead Ringers, and A History of Violence. Psychology as such appears most obviously in his horror movie The Brood, stanley mugg where a Carl Jung-like figure urges women to release their rage in the form of fetus-like monsters who kill the people they stanley tumbler 8217;re angry at. The <a href=https://www.stanley-cups.co.uk>stanley uk idea of Apple moving to Magsafe charging for iOS devices has been aired before, but the lack of data transfer stymied such plans. The smell of a favorite food can literally make your mouth water. The Verge is reporting that Microsoft Office is finally coming out for Android and iOS early next year. Like, for real this time. Apparently, it coming to iOS first in February or March, and will be available for Android soon thereafter in May. The Office software will reportedly require a Microsoft account, and will launch with the ability to view documents. The ability to edit them is activated if you have an Office 365 account, which you can buy in-app. There aren ;t any details about specific functionality that will or won ;t be in the apps, but the report makes it pretty clear that you ;ll still, obviously, need the full desktop versions. There are also no specifics on pricing or if the read-only version will be free , and security.
