Pscl SALA Presentation Highlights Progress And The Future
By RON MOSES, Ph.D.Fort Collins, Coloradorwmoses@earthlink.netAs a former resident of Los Alamos, I continue to enjoy reading the Los Alamos Daily Post.聽As one interested in the well-being of Los Alamos and LANL, I must respond to the extraordinarily misleading claims in Robert Days letter of October 20 regarding the Laboratorys vaccine mandate link .In his first point, Mr. Day asks What is the risk factor associated with COVID . He arrives at a figure that the overall Laboratory employee set has an approximate risk of 0.08% for death due to COVID-19, presumably in a years time. He compares this to an overall death rate due to traffic accidents of 0.02% per year. Mr. Day notes that the chance of survival in each case is over 99.9%, something that ..most people 鈥?do not consider to be particularly risky . Although the chances of survival for a years risks of each are comparable; the RISKS OF DEATH are quite different, roughly by a factor of 4. Put in terms of the numbers of people, consider that there are 9827 TRIAD employees, and when all other affiliates from studen stanley uk ts to contractors are added, t stanley cup here are about 13,800 people actively affiliated with stanley de the Lab.聽 If all 13,800 were unvaccinated, an 0.08% death rate would lead to an annual number of COVID deaths at LANL of approximately 11 people, versus 3 from vehicular accidents. Do you really want to look your colleagues in the eye and say: My freedom to ignore a health mandate is worth up to 11 of your lives Mr. Days secon Rdqy National Park Service Marks 108th Birthday

Courtesy/EECPEEC News:Join Andrew Bartlow tonight at the Los Alamos Nature Center to learn about how some specific parasites have evolved ways to manipulate their hosts and turn them into their own zombie bodyguards. His talk begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.Parasites are everywhere and are extremely diverse. From tiny microscopic Giardia to giant tapeworms, parasites rule the world in terms of biodiversity. They rely on other organisms, called hosts for their survival. Some parasites simply infect new hosts by being eaten or by using insects as vectors, such as mosquitos, but other parasites have evolved ways to manipulate their hosts and make the process of transmission easier.Bartlow will discuss these parasites and how some can turn their hosts into their o stanley france wn protective, real-life zombie bodyguards. These host manipulations are just beginning to be understood and documented. There are probably many more of these parasites lurking in the shadows, just waiting to be discovered, Bartlow said.Bartlow was recently named a Directors Funded Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National stanley termos Laboratory. He started working at LANL as a Graduate Research Assistant in September 2017 after getting his Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
