The Virginia Department of Forestry is offering financial assistance to remove dead or dying ash trees from the public landscape.Municipalities, local government agencies, non-profit entities on public lands, and/or tribal communities are eligible to apply to receive funding through this 50 percent cost-share program.No private companies or landowners are eligible.To qualify for this program, the tree s must have a diameter at breast height DBH of 17 inches or greater and exhibit greater than 30 percent canopy loss. All applications must have a removal quote or bid attached from an International Society of Arboriculture-certified arborist.The cost share will cover 50 percent of total removal costs as a reimbursement up to $6,150 per organization or $30 per diameter inch and will include an incentive payment of $200 for replacement of every tree removed under the cost-share up to $1,200 . Its important to maintain the tree canopy on our public lands. Bob McDonnell has directed $11 million in his forthcoming biennial budget to the City of Richmond for the development, creation, and enhancement of the Slavery and Freedom Heritage Site in Richmond.The proposed funding continues the governors commitment to strengthening Virginias tourism industry, which is a major revenue and job-driver in <a href=https://www.stanleyusa.us>stanley usa the Commonwealth. Over the past three years of the McDonnell administration, tourism funding, which has a proven 5:1 return on investment, has increased by over $5 million per year. In 2012, visitors to Virginia generated $21.2 billion in revenue from tourism in 2012, a four percent increase over 2011 and a new record high for the Commonwealth. The tourism industry in Virginia supported 210,000 jobs in 2012, an increase of one percent in employment, and provided more than $1.36 billion in state and local taxes. During the McDonnell administration, tourism revenues have continued to increase each year, with a total revenue increase of 12.3 percent since 2010. Glenn Youngkin to remove Virginia from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a multi-state compact that has held energy costs for consumers in its member states in line as costs have risen sharply in the rest of the country.The SELC has served the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality a notice of appeal challenging Virginias removal from RGGI on behalf of Appalachian Voices, the Association of Energy Conservation Professionals, Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions, and Virginia Interfaith Power and Light.In the notice, the groups informed the Virginia Air Pollution Control Board and Virginia DEQ that they will challenge the action by Youngkin to remove Virginia from the RGGI in Fairfax Circuit Court.
