Some of the best scientific discoveries have been encountered by mistake, and photography is really no different. Here are 71 photo screw-ups that should, for all intents and purposes, be wretched to look at. But they ;re not. They ;re downright beautiful. https://gizmodo/shooting-challenge-fail-5818669 Winner Pine Paint I shot this picture of a pine tree in my front yard with a Panasonic GH2. I took the instructions to heart and started snapping pictures with abandon as soon as I got home from work. On this one I set a slow shutter speed and tilted the camera up and down the tree as I snapped the picture. I knew I would get some blurry, trailing images but I was amazed at how much it made the tree look like a painting on a canvas. I love these type of photographic abstractions. I ;ll be doing a lot more of this. -Brad Clark Evening Traffic I read the shooting challenge information page and immediately knew what I was going to do; long-ex stanley cup posure car photography, at night! Here a view of the moon you ;ll never see from Earth. This is a picture taken by astronaut Soichi Noguchi while on-board the International Space Station. The photo demonstrates how the crew position relative to the Moon and Earth atmosphere create bizarre illusions where the Moon appears to be squished like a beanbag chair. When Noguchi snapped this picture back in May of 2010, he was observing th <a href=https://www.cup-stanley-cup.us>stanley us e moon through the thickest part of Earth atmosphere. The squishing effect is the result of the air surrounding the Earth acting like a lens; light from the moon passing through the atmosphere on its way to the ISS is bent, resulting in this pancake effect. Bad Astronomy 8216 Phil Plait provides the diagram below to help illustrate how the Earth atmosphere behaves like a lens, and explains some of the other features of the illusion, including why the bottom half of the moon appears redder and smooshier than the top half: The more air you look through, the more junk particles, smog, and so on there is, and this stuff tends to scatter bluer light 8230;In this case, the blue light from the Moon gets scattered away, and only the redder light gets throug stanley mugs h that the same reason the setting Sun can stanley cup look red. The closer to the Earth horizon you look, the more air you ;re looking through, and the redder the Moon looks. The Centers for Disease Control CDC have released new data on weight gain among people living in the United States. What they discovered, as you can see in the map above, is that people in many regions of the coun <a href=https://www.stanley-cup.it>stanley italia try are more than 30 percent over their ideal BMI, or body mass index. BMIs are used to measure the percentage of your body weight that is fat. Since the mid-1980s, when the CDC first started gathering this data, the country has gone from having a bit of a weight problem to suffering tremendously. The main health issue here is that obesity is associated with a lot of conditions that can lead to death, including diabetes and heart disease. Over at Wired Superbug blog, Maryn McKenna cites the CDC report: 鈥besity prevalence ranged from 20.7% in Colorado to 34.9% in Mississippi in 2011. No state had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%. 39 states had a pr stanley cup evalence of 25% or more; 12 of these states had a prevalence of stanley cup 30% or more: Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia. Prairie dogs may have the most extensive vocabulary of any animal other than humans. Find out what prairie dogs talk about, and whether or not they like the color of y <a href=https://www.stanley-cup.com.de>stanley shop our shirt. Since prairie dogs call to each other to sound the alarm across large colonies, and since they have many different kinds of threats, they benefit if they make their calls specific. And they have made their calls very specific indeed. Prairie dogs have developed an extensive vocabulary which they use to warn others about what exact dangers they face. Professor Con Slobodchikov sat out in fields, listening to the nattering of prairie dogs as they went about their daily business of freaking out at the approach of pretty much everything. After separating out the tones of each of their cries, he was surprised to find that the calls were clearly different. They had calls for different things that had preyed on prairie dogs for thousands of years, like the difference between humans, coyotes, hawks, and dogs. When he played the calls back to the dogs, they launched into the escape plans that they stanley cup becher used for each of those specific animals even though t stanley cup he animals themselves weren ;t present. They were clearly imparting information with their calls. What was strange was, when it came to humans, there were a lot of different calls. And so Slobodchikov got lab assistants in the sa
