TORONTO 鈥?Scotiabank says it expects to see continued loan growth pressure and political uncertainty in the months ahead as it reported profits that were up from a year ago but below analyst expectations. The bank kicked off year-end results for the sector on Tuesday as it reported a fourth-quarter profit of $1.69 billion, up from $1.35 billion in the same period last year, as it set aside a smaller amount for bad loans compared with a year ago.Profits were hit by taxes and a writedown of its holding in a Chinese bank, while its Canadian operations were affected by the softening economy, said chief executive Scott Thomson. We anticipate additional easing through the first half of the year, which we expect will be stimulative to activity in the domestic housing and mortgage markets and buoy consumer and business confidence, Thomson said.Fears of a rise in mortgage defaults has led all banks to set aside provisions for potentially bad loans, but a 1.25 percentage point drop in the Bank of Canada rate is already easing some fears. I was actually on my way into the rink to go skate, Dach told reporters on a video call Friday. So its a bit shocking but stanley spain I m excited to be in Montreal. It s a great city. I love to play there. I can t wait to have the fans on my side cheering us on. Selected third overall by Chicago at the 2019 draft, expectations were high for Dach as he embarked on his NHL career. He was hampered by injuries, though, including a broken wrist that limited the forward to just 18 games in the 2020-21 campaign.聽Last season, Dach had nine goals and 17 assists in 70 games.聽The native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., feels he has more to show with the Canadiens.聽 I feel like I m pretty offensive and smart with the puck and can make plays. Now, Chicago seems intent on dismantling its roster in favour of a complete rebuild.聽The club also dealt star forward Alex DeB Rmoa Hernandez drives in four runs as Jays down Rays 11-2 in spring training game
